Born in Istanbul. After finishing Saint Joseph High School, Mehmet Gunyeli studied Political Science. He started taking photograph in the 1980s. He has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He has received several awards. He completed his photograph project “The Colors of Earth”. Günyeli is known as being against cultural globalization. In recent years, he has focused on contemporary and conceptual themes. He has two photography books: Viva Cuba Libre (2004, Istanbul) and India (Istanbul, 2006). In 2008 Günyeli was invited to the Prix Pictet Photography Project. His photographs can be seen in the collections of the Istanbul Modern Museum and the Elgiz Contemporary Art Museum in Istanbul.
2010, The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston will include 3 photos of the Dervishes series by Mehmet Gunyeli to the museum private collection.

Günyeli’s vision in photography is compassionate and adventurous and fully detailed. He never takes the easy way out by picturing randomly he does it by imagining, observing and satisfying the viewer with his bold impressions, sometimes with colored atmosphere using minimal and abstract images which proves us his vision is not accidental but impeccable.
He is meticulous in composition, enigmatic in content and expressing an overall warm hearted interest in human relations.
“My passion in photography comes from my love and loyalty to human kind and I let myself fly with the wind of the other territories. With this child in me I travel the world, I am not taking documentary I am trying to reflect the living colors, feelings and the rhythms of the world” he says…

“Mehmet Günyeli Editions” Exhibition will take place in Nar Art Gallery in Beylerbeyi on the 14th of May Wednesday at 18:00 with the participation of his friends, art lovers and the media.
There will be limited edition works form 1980 till now which truly represents his unique approach to photography.
The exhibition presents abstract photography by Mehmet Günyeli from his most widely known series.
In 2005, the “Angels – Street of Dreams”, the works represents the encounter of human with angels in a peaceful mind with a surreal and fantastic setting…
“Words of Love” is the reflection of life and love to God. The rotating white and sharp steps are the symbolism of his abstract expression to reach God, like the whirling Dervishes.
The bold colors and the traces of paint stains on the boats left behind by the illegal immigrants overlap with the cultural differences and the identity crisis of these ill fated people in his “Sea of Fate” photography series. Günyeli’s intention here is to attract attention to this most tragic human disgrace of our age; the refugee and illegal human traffic.
